UNIT ACCOUNTANT - LEGAL

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To prepare accurate and detailed accounting records for cases in dispute, attending hearings and when called upon to do so explaining accounting principles at these hearings.

SCOPE OF JOB

  • Acting under the direction of the legal department assisting in the preparation of submissions to courts and tribunals and collating supporting documentation for those cases
  • Advising the legal department on the accountancy aspects of these cases
  • Attending Tribunal and Court hearings as required.
  • Explaining accounting principles at Tribunal and Court hearings as required.
  • To fully understand the complexity of the unit in question and to liaise with the Unit Manager and Regional Manager or Director
  • Analyse costs against budget and understanding the accruals and prepayments
  • Reconciliation of bank account, debtors and creditors , apportionments and analysis of determinations
  • Liaising with auditors to resolve queries
  • Liaising with contractors to obtain invoices
  • Dealing with all queries
  • Any other ad-hoc duties

PERSON SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS

  • GCSE Grade C or above or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Minimum AAT qualified or within the final year of study

EXPERIENCE

Experience working within an accounting environment producing monthly management accounts or annual accounts

KNOWLEDGE

Accounting knowledge to include double entry, accruals, prepayments, and an understanding of final accounts.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office
  • Previous experience of accounting software

  • Must be willing to travel
